One of those designers is Abdulla Raikhy. After completing our part-time UX Design Bootcamp, he transitioned into UI/UX and product design, where he now creates digital products that solve real user and business needs.

This is how Abdulla’s journey went. 

When I started searching for the right program, I wasn’t looking for lectures filled with theory. I wanted practical experience that reflected the way designers actually work. The goal wasn’t simply to learn new tools. I wanted to understand the entire UX process, from research and problem definition to wireframing, testing, and making thoughtful design decisions. More importantly, I wanted to build the confidence to transition into product design professionally. At General Assembly Bahrain, the emphasis on practical projects, instructor feedback, and real-world design challenges gave me the opportunity to experience the UX process from start to finish.

Learning to think like a UX designer

The program introduced an entirely new way of approaching design. Instead of focusing only on how something looked, every decision had to be supported by research, user needs, and clear reasoning. 

That shift wasn’t always easy. Every project required research, collaboration, and presenting design decisions, mirroring the workflow of professional UX teams. Learning new methodologies while balancing research, projects, presentations, and deadlines brought plenty of challenges. But those challenges became some of the most valuable lessons. I had to learn to explain every design decision instead of relying on visual instinct alone. By asking questions, practicing consistently, and trusting the process, I became much more confident in the way I approached design.

Turning skills into a career

Graduating was only one milestone. The next challenge was proving those skills in a professional environment. Like many aspiring designers, my journey wasn’t simply about securing a new job title. It was about building credibility through real projects and demonstrating the ability to solve problems with thoughtful design. Through portfolio projects, presentations, and continuous instructor feedback, General Assembly helped bridge that gap by strengthening both my technical capabilities and professional communication skills.

Designing better digital experiences

Today, I work as a UI/UX and product designer, creating digital experiences that balance usability with strong visual design. As Bahrain’s digital economy continues to grow, professionals who combine creativity with user-centered problem solving are becoming increasingly valuable across industries.

My day-to-day responsibilities include designing user flows, structuring interfaces, solving UX challenges, and ensuring products meet both user needs and business goals. Product design isn’t just about making something look good. It’s about understanding people, identifying pain points, and designing experiences that genuinely improve how they interact with technology. All of that came naturally to me and I was able to do it with confidence after the skills I gained at General Assembly’s UX Design Bootcamp. 

The skills I learned during the bootcamp

Throughout the bootcamp, I developed practical tech skills that continue to shape my work every day, including:

• User-centered design
• User research
• Wireframing and prototyping
• Usability thinking
• Design strategy
• Presenting design rationale with confidence

Perhaps even more important than the technical skills was developing a strategic thinking process that starts with asking better questions, challenging assumptions, and designing with intention.

Looking back

The biggest transformation wasn’t technical. It was learning to confidently communicate the reasoning behind every decision. The biggest change wasn’t learning new design tools. It was realizing I could confidently explain why I designed something. General Assembly gave me the structure, language, and confidence to support every decision I made.

That confidence transformed more than a portfolio. It transformed the way I saw myself as a designer. Today, I’m creating digital products with purpose, proving that with the right guidance, curiosity can become confidence, and creativity can become a career.
